On a Winning Streak

I’ve always said that I never win anything, so why bother trying? I literally have never won anything. Ok, maybe a fish sandwich from one of those McDonald’s Monopoly games. But since I don’t eat fish…so what, who cares?  But I have definitely changed my mind about that. In the last few weeks, we’ve had a string of good luck, big and small.

First, we get cast for an episode in a tv show!! I can’t publicly say what show. Or even when it will air right now. The network has sworn us to secrecy (no leaks), but hopefully I’ll at least be able to announce when the episode will be airing. But how cool is that? We went from just looking up when or if the next season was going to premier, to applying to be on the show. Next thing we know, we made the cut! I will officially have my 15 minutes.

The other wins aren’t quite as major, but cool nonetheless. My daughter entered a contest to be a Junior Reporter at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Her essay won and now we get free tickets to the faire this weekend, press badges and she gets her article about it published in a local newspaper. She is thrilled, of course. And mom and dad get a chance to dress up as pirates again, so it’s a win for everyone!

As if that wasn’t enough, a few days later we win free tickets to an ASU basketball game. But that’s not all. It includes a tour, pre-game VIP experience (with cash bar and food), and a meet and greet with Tim Healey before the game starts. I don’t know who the heck Tim Healey is exactly, but he must be someone worth meeting and greeting. Sorry, I don’t follow college basketball.

I just don’t know what to make of these good fortunes. What do we do with it? How do we keep it going? I’m trying to figure out how to take advantage of this lucky streak. We should:

Play the lottery. That’s obvious. At this rate, we have a good shot at winning the jackpot! Cha-ching!!

Write Ellen so we can get a $10,000 check from Shutterfly. I don’t really have a sob story and I’m not in desperate need of help. But who cares? I’ll probably get it anyway!

Ask for student loan forgiveness. Why not? You have not, because you ask not. And I’m lucky, so I’m asking!!

Audition for a movie. I can’t act to save my life, but again, good fortune is following me. Expect to see me starring in the next Star Wars movie. I’ll be the lead, I’m sure.

Enter the HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes. I love those homes. It’s my time to get one.

Gamble. Come on! You have to gamble when you’re lucky! The casinos are calling me! My payday awaiteth!

I would have loved to have been on Oprah’s Favorite Things show. Wait, I will write to Oprah and ask her to bring back the show just for me! Oprah and I will become besties (sorry Gayle) and she will give me my own tv show!

I’ll let you know how this all works out. I’m sure I will get everything my heart desires and then some. Now excuse me while I go think of some more things to try my luck on.
