Day Trip To Galveston

We have family from Ohio visiting this week, so we wanted to show them a little slice of Texas. There are so many things to do in the Houston area, so the options were plentiful. The weather was finally nice after several days of chilly temps and rain, so I thought a trip to Galveston Island would be fun. Our intentions were to take a harbor tour, but we were late and missed it. I blame the slow-poke hubby and unexpected traffic once we got into Galveston. So on to plan B. We headed over to Galveston Island State Park and spent the morning at the beach. The kids took their shoes off, ran through the sand, and collected sea shells. They were quite entertained by this. We even happened upon a former teacher who gave us the scoop on all the different varieties of shells we had collected. I was over this random lesson from the nice stranger after a few minutes, but she was so kind to stop that I didn’t feel right about cutting her off. Things went sour quickly however when my daughter was told one of her shells had a live snail in it. This kid is afraid of ants, so anything bigger is cause for a freak out. Even with a slight chill in the air from the ocean breeze, we all still had a great time. Next time, I hope to check out the Galveston Island Historical Pleasure Pier, the Strand Historic District downtown, one of the many museums, or finally get to take that harbor tour!
